Tattoo Apprentice

Ever thought about making a career as a tattoo artist?

Do you have what it takes - Passion, Attention to Detail, most importantly the professionalism within the creative mind?

Starting May of 2011, Skinwerks Tattoo will be entertaining the possibility of a new Studio Apprentice for Tattooing. We would like to meet the people who would be interested in a potentially rewarding career. For those that are interested, you will need to bring in a portfolio showing potential as an artist. No portfolio...Don't bother.

Your portfolio should express your passion towards Art,and design. Just so you know,Craig has had one Apprentice since the opening of Skinwerks Tattoo. Mrs Jennifer Young/White, A.K.A. "Jenny Bunns" who has set the bar extremely high.

The most talented portfolio will be considered. Skinwerks is not looking for someone who looks like a Tattoo Artist...But someone who really wants to become part of Tattooing. Please....We are planning on investing a lot of time into this project. If you put a lot of time and effort into your Art, it will be noticed. As far as a portfolio...We will hope to see a collection of 12 tattoo related drawings, and a letter expressing interest into this industry.

There will be a window throughout the month of May to get these things together. We will review the Portfolios during the month of June, and hope to find someone with potential to become a Tattoo Artist. We look forward to meeting the Talent.

Portfolio do's and don'ts

  • Composition - Tattoos are creative compositions that consist of characters, typography, color and imagery that make up a solid design. It’s important that your portfolio shows excellent composition skills. We’re not looking for a just a heart on a piece of paper, but a heart successfully designed with a dagger or a skull – a composition.
  • Color – It’s not just a tone or shade, but a design component in itself. Color Theory is a science; it can break or make a successful tattoo. Show us how well you know complimentary colors.
  • Versatility - A portfolio should show a wide range of designs. Everything from candy canes to zebras. Were not looking for a 12 illustrations of dragons. Clients are all walks of life – and so will be the requests for custom designs. It’s important that you can draw anything on the spot.
  • Professionalism – No scrapbooks with cluttered collections of drawings taped together. This is not kindergarten – it’s a career. Presentation is everything.. .
